“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17
Approaching Advent and Asking for Your Support
Welcome to Desert Oasis Chapel – “the Oasis”
Thank you for taking a few minutes to read this email!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Service and Lunch Banquet last week which now ushers us into the beginning of Advent: the celebration of the coming of the Christ child. This Sunday we’ll have an introduction to the real recognition of Christmas.
Christmas is a special time of year, full of different meanings to different people and, you know this, we point to a clearly explicit meaning – God has joined us, God has met us, God has opened the way to full reconciliation between God and mankind. That’s part of the message but there’s a lot more so why not plan to make your Sundays between now and New Years a time of response to God’s call. We’re convinced it will be a very good investment of your time.
Now we are asking for a hand, if you will: support for a project that we want and need to do for our church. We are asking for donations this week and next to buy a new computer and some remarkable software specifically designed for churches. We’ve been working for years with a fairly obsolete computer for all our production work: slides, graphics, songs on screen and a lot more. Since we got our present equipment, new software has come out that will delightfully improve our worship service presentation but the new software requires greater computer power than our slightly archaic unit can handle.
Our IT Team has been doing a remarkable job with what they’ve had to work with but we can only assure you that when we get our new set up, you’ll see a huge difference: we’ll have superior graphics, we’ll be able to run video clips and scenes off YouTube or other media and we’ll be in a position to strikingly personalize the video and sound presentations. Thank you for stepping up to help us with this. We don’t make this kind of request often, the last time was to buy our sound board and speakers in 2012. Candidly, we want your time at Desert Oasis Chapel to be spiritually nurturing but also interesting and stimulating visibly and audibly. Again, we thank you. As always, yes: all donations are fully tax-deductible.
As mentioned above, Christmas is coming and we want to encourage you to embrace Christmas 2017 with a new or renewed perspective on its meaning. We are committed to help you do that. A lot about Christmas is trite and repetitive but the message of God’s visitation really is the most important event in human history.
So here is a quick look at our Agenda for the next month:
Sunday, December 3rd – Communion and the start of Advent
Sunday, December 10th – Worship Service pointing to the coming of the King
Sunday, December 17th – Worship Service with our Christmas Lunch Banquet
Sunday, December 24th – Christmas Worship Service
Sunday, December 24th – Christmas Eve Service at 7:00 pm
Sunday, December 31st – New Years Eve Sunday Worship Service
Thank you for reading this email. We want to know how we can be present and available for you. We cannot know your wishes and your needs if you or someone doesn’t tell us. You are never a burden or an imposition to us. For some folks, Christmas season is lonely or a difficult. Join with us and let’s make it at least meaningful and, better yet, personal. We’d like that!
